DETROIT – A restaurant in Michigan recently hosted an unexpected encounter with one of the stars of the “Lord of the Rings” series.

Actor Elijah Wood dined at the Dime Store in downtown Detroit last week. The restaurant also has a second location in Rochester Hills.

The restaurant posted photos on its Facebook page showing the actor taking photos with some of its employees.

“OMG, OMG, OMG. We were in total geek mode in Detroit today when our buddy from the Shire, Frodo Baggins, had dinner with us at the Dime Store,” the Facebook post read.

“Actor and producer Elijah Wood brought smiles and excitement to staff and guests alike, because let’s be honest: who doesn’t love Frodo?”

We don’t know why he was in Michigan last week and have contacted his publicist but have not yet received a response.

“From all accounts, he’s a super nice guy and even took the time to take photos with our employees,” Dime Store’s Facebook post continued. “Thanks for being such a good sportsman, Elijah. We’re huge fans; it was truly an honor to have you as a guest.”

Wood also recently came to Michigan as one of the celebrity guests at the Motor City Comic Con in October 2001.

The 43-year-old Iowa native, who made his acting debut in Back to the Future 2, is also known for his leading roles in Everlasting Love, Wilfred, Flipper and the Happy Feet series.
