More than 25,000 euros rent per month for the Mayor of Limerick

The Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, receives annual rental income of over €300,000 from his transatlantic property portfolio.

He owns 23 properties in Ireland and the United States – including a Manhattan apartment that he rents for $6,700 a month – according to a recently filed ethics statement obtained by The ditch.

The ditch reported in June that Moran was charging up to €1,400 a month for a single room in his Limerick apartment complex. He recently said high rents were driving young people out of the county.

Moran has stated that he wants to be “the mayor who creates a Vienna model for affordable housing in Limerick”.

Two Apartments = approx. 10,000 euros rent per month

Last month, John Moran submitted his first ethics statement to Limerick City and County Council.

He owns a shared apartment complex in The Crescent in Limerick City, which is divided into five apartments and eight studios. The ditch As previously reported, the building generates monthly rent of around 15,000 euros.

He also owns two rental properties in Pery Court and a house in nearby Pery Square, which he plans to renovate and use as a private residence.

In addition, he owns his house in Raheen and a property in Glantworth Street through his lobbying firm RHH International.

Moran owns another commercial property at 32 Parnell Street in Limerick city, which he says is “held through a pension scheme and has been agreed to be sold”.

Meanwhile, a property he owns in Chapelizod, Dublin 8, is described as his “residence while working in Dublin”.

Although Moran discloses ownership in the United States and France, his ethics form states that he is “not required to disclose out-of-state ownership.”

The ditch can, however, reveal that Moran owns two two-bedroom apartments on East 11th Street in Manhattan. New York state records show that he purchased the first apartment in the late 1990s.

According to a real estate advertisement, the apartment was rented about four years ago for $4,800 (4,400 euros) a month.

The Limerick man bought a second apartment in the same building in 2015 for $1.65 million (€1.5 million). It was recently for 6,700 dollars (6,100 euros) a month.

The former finance ministry adviser’s portfolio also includes a 13th-century medieval property in Cordes-sur-Ciel, a commune in the south of France.
