They can be as simple or as complicated as you like, and what you put in the middle is entirely up to you. Here in Montana, many locals think of the famous sandwich “Pork Chop Sandwich” which is a staple not only in Butte, but also in the rest of the state.

But who comes out on top when it comes to the best sandwich shop in the state?

The people at Unique in Montana have released their list of the Best of Montana, and when it comes to sandwiches, picking a winner was no easy task, but we have one, and the place that took home the crown has a long history here in Montana.

The best sandwich shop in Montana is the legendary Pickle barrel.

Founded in 1975 by Ken and Kerry Olson in Bozeman, Pickle Barrel has become a popular hangout for MSU students, locals and tourists. Not only are the sandwiches delicious, they’re huge and with hot and cold sandwiches, you’ll easily find a favorite sandwich or two or three.

Currently, Pickle Barrel has two locations. The original location is in Bozeman next to the MSU campus and the second location is in downtown Livingston. Other sandwich shops loved by Distinctly Montana include The Uphill Grill in Helena and Tagliare Delicatessen in Missoula
