Stream FOX 35:

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, a 14-year-old was arrested over the weekend for allegedly committing an armed carjacking at a gas station in Ocala.

The teenager, whose name FOX 35 does not want to disclose due to age reasons, is facing several criminal charges following the incident on Saturday evening:

  • Car theft with firearm
  • Possession of a firearm by a person under 18 years of age
  • Unauthorized display of a firearm

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy was flagged down by the carjacking victim at the Circle K on NE Jacksonville Road. He said the teen “came out from behind a gas pump, pointed a gun at his chest and demanded that he hand over the keys,” according to deputies.

“Give me your keys (swear word)!” the teenager said to the man, according to an affidavit.

The 14-year-old then allegedly stole the man’s blue 2002 Chevy Tahoe and drove away on Highway 326 after the man threw his keys on the driver’s seat.

Officers found the stolen SUV about 10 minutes later in the 5400 block of SE 28th Lane. The 14-year-old was arrested during a traffic stop.

“There’s also a gun in the car,” the teenager can be heard saying on the sheriff’s office bodycam footage. The gun, a 9 mm Kahr Arms CW9, matched the description the carjacking victim had given officers. It was in the cup holder.

“During questioning, (the teenager) admitted to the car theft, smiled frequently and appeared to feel no remorse for his actions,” officials said, adding that “he did not know” what motivated him to commit the armed car theft.

Officers also spoke with the boy’s mother, who said she reported her son missing earlier that evening after taking his phone away for “disciplinary reasons,” the affidavit said. The mother added that this prompted the teen to “destroy her house and throw tables.”
