Gasoline prices in Kentucky continue to fall

Good news for Kentucky residents planning a spontaneous summer road trip: Gas prices in the province continue to fall.

  • The average price per gallon in Kentucky for the week of August 12, 2024 is $3.13.
  • This represents a decrease of five cents from the week of August 5, 2024 ($3.18) and eleven cents from the week of July 29, 2024 ($3.24).
  • Prices are also almost 40 cents lower than in the same period last year.
  • The national average for a gallon of gasoline is $3.44


The average price per gallon for the week of August 12, 2024 is $3.13, down five cents from the week of August 5, 2024 ($3.18), down 11 cents from the week of July 29, 2024 ($3.24), and down 37 cents from the same time last year, when the average price per gallon for the week of August 14, 2023 was $3.50.

According to AAA, the national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.44. That’s the lowest gas price since the first week of June, and it’s also down nine cents from last month and 40 cents from last year.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration, AAA said gas demand fell from 9.25 million barrels per day to 8.96 last week, while total domestic gasoline inventories rose from 223.8 million barrels per day to 225.1 million barrels per day. Gas production also rose last week to 10 million barrels per day, and crude oil production hit a historic high of 13.4 million barrels per day.
