Candy recalled at Walmart, Target and other grocery stores due to salmonella

Candy recalled at Walmart, Target and other grocery stores due to salmonella

If you recently purchased candy at Walmart, Target, Dollar General or other grocery stores, you may want to check your bag. A candy manufacturer is recalling several of its products due to possible salmonella poisoning.

“The Palmer Candy Company of Sioux City, Iowa, is recalling its ‘White Coated Confectionary Items’ because they may be contaminated with Salmonellaan organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” the FDA said via Fox News.

“Palmer Candy has been informed by its liquid coating supplier that there is a possible contamination with Salmonella from an ingredient that may have been contaminated by one of their suppliers,” they said.

On August 6, the FDA classified the recall as Class I. Class I is the highest possible risk level. According to the FDA website, it is “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that use of or contact with a violating product will cause serious health consequences or death.”

Recall of sweets

However, so far there have been no injuries caused by the product. The affected sweets include pretzels, snack mixes and cookies. Several grocery stores such as Walmart, Target and Dollar General sold these products. In addition, they were sold in Alabama, California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Following the discovery, the Palmer Candy Company stopped producing the candy, which may have been contaminated with salmonella. Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause food poisoning. Although it lives in the human intestine, it also poses a risk of food poisoning when it comes into contact with food.

Not everyone shows symptoms after ingesting salmonella bacteria. However, others experience gastrointestinal problems and diarrhea. Most recover within a few days, but some are at high risk for complications, so it is very important to take such a recall seriously. You don’t want to accidentally make yourself sick by eating the candy.

If you have affected candy, either throw it away or return it to the store and you will get your money back.
