Princess Margaret’s holiday home can now be rented

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to vacation like the royal family, you might be able to do so by renting Princess Margaret’s favorite vacation home – assuming you can afford the hefty price tag. The British royal family’s Les Jolies Eaux, a villa on the southernmost tip of the private Caribbean island of Mustique, is available to rent by the public. Designed specifically for Margaret by Oliver Messel, the property served as a tropical retreat for Queen Elizabeth’s younger sister.

According to the rental website, a week-long stay can cost between $33,000 and $47,000. Les Jolies Eaux, which translates to “the beautiful water,” as reported PeopleAccommodates 10 adults and two children and features five bedrooms, a private plunge pool and a dining pavilion. The villa’s staff includes a butler, a chef, a gardener and two housekeepers.

“In classic Messel style, guests enter the magnificent Great Room via a courtyard overlooking the pool and gardens that open to the Caribbean Sea beyond,” the website states. “The front of the house is immediately recognizable, leading to the expansive lawns that extend to the hidden Gelliceaux Beach, discovered only by those in the know and for which the house is named.”

The mansion is also advertised as having “ever-changing views” and a “sense of history.”

Margaret received a 10-hectare property on Mustique (in St. Vincent and the Grenadines) from the then owner Colin Tennant as a wedding gift when she married Antony Armstrong-Jones in 1960, from whom she divorced in 1976. The villa remained largely unknown to the world until 1976 when pictures of Margaret and her lover Roddy Llewellyn appeared in News from around the world.

Five years before Margaret’s death in 2002, the property was passed on to her son David, who sold it after her death to American businessman Jim Murray. Hello!

The island remains a popular holiday destination for the royals. Kate Middleton and Prince William first visited the island in 2008 when they were still boyfriend and girlfriend. Since then, they have travelled there for family holidays, including two babymoons.
