Emergency crews battle forest fire near Tower Rock State Park

The fires broke out around 11:00 a.m. on Monday and were probably caused by drag chains that created sparks in the dry grass.

Five fires were lit in the area, the largest of which covered an area of ​​about 8.5 acres, the others about an acre or less.

Collectively they were called the Pelican Point Fire.

Fire departments that responded included Cascade, Ulm, Dearborn and Craig, as well as the Montana Department of Natural Resources & Conservation, with a total of 17 fire trucks and two helicopters.

Tower Rock State Park has been closed due to critical fire conditions. Authorities advise motorists to be alert for tow chains to prevent future fires.

The Montana Department of Transportation reports that southbound I-15 has been reduced to one lane between mile marker 247.8 and mile marker 248.2.

Motorists are asked to slow down and exercise caution due to emergency vehicles in the area.

There are currently no reports of injuries or building damage.

No information is yet available on the suspected cause of the fire.
