Man pleads guilty to involvement in 2020 Stamford home burglaries

STAMFORD, CT (WFSB) – A man pleaded guilty Monday for his involvement in home burglaries in Stamford in 2020.

Bratosz Kurpiecki, 34, of Stamford pleaded guilty to first-degree menacing, first-degree false imprisonment, first-degree robbery, first-degree theft, attempted burglary and assault on a peace officer.

Kurpiecki twice broke into the home of an elderly couple in 2020 armed with a firearm and threatened to shoot them if they tried to contact police.

In the first incident on November 22, he cut the house’s electricity and telephone lines before breaking in and pointing a gun at the victims while ransacking their home.

He fled with cash, fine china and a Porsche 911 worth $90,000.

He then returned to the apartment early in the morning of December 25. However, the victims temporarily moved out and assigned off-duty police officers to monitor the property.

After sensors detected movement, units were dispatched and Kurpiecki was found in the rear of the house attempting to break in through sliding doors.

He engaged in a foot chase with the police through a nearby forest and fought with the officers before he was arrested. A replica firearm, a knife, handcuffs, a metal pipe, duct tape, wire cutters, screwdrivers, a rubber hammer and a flashlight were found in a backpack, as well as the keys to the stolen Porsche.

As part of a plea agreement, he will be sentenced to a total of 40 years in prison, suspended after 20 years, followed by five years’ probation.

Sentencing is scheduled for October 24 at Stamford Superior Court.
