MPD officer witnesses a shooting outside the Frayser gas station and shoots the suspect during the chase

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Memphis police are investigating a shooting at a gas station in Frayser that led to a chase during which an officer fired his weapon Monday night.

One of the suspects is in custody. Three others are still at large.

According to a department spokesman, an officer on routine patrol witnessed a shooting in front of the EZ Express at the intersection of Frayser Boulevard and Mountain Terrace Street at 4:41 p.m.

At least one man was shot in the altercation, but according to MPD, he refused treatment and was not taken to the hospital.

As the police officer who witnessed the shooting drove onto the property to investigate the incident, a white Ford sedan sped away from the scene, sparking a chase north on Frayser Boulevard.

According to MPD, the Ford stopped just past St. Elmo Avenue and two men jumped out of the car and fled into neighboring backyards. The Ford then drove off in an unknown direction.

For reasons still under investigation, MPD said the officer fired a single shot at one of the two fleeing suspects, who was dressed all in black.

The suspect was able to escape, so it is currently unclear whether he was hit.

The second suspect was arrested and taken to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition for treatment of unspecified injuries.

A firearm was also seized.

Two MPD officers sustained minor injuries during the foot pursuit and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to police, the white Ford is still missing. The model is unknown. According to MPD, the first three characters of the license plate are BRT.

According to MPD, two other men were in the Ford after the others got out. One was last seen wearing a black hoodie and black pants, the other was last seen wearing a white shirt and gray pants.
