Baton Rouge store employee accused of video voyeurism | Crime/Police

Police have arrested a Baton Rouge man on suspicion of taking inappropriate videos of a 9-year-old girl at the grocery store where he worked.

According to an affidavit, 24-year-old Jonathon Isaac Gibbs is accused of video voyeurism and indecent conduct with a minor at the Hi Nabor Supermarket at 7201 Winbourne Ave.

On Aug. 5, store management received a complaint from a woman who said Gibbs followed her and her nine-year-old daughter throughout the store and took inappropriate videos of the girl, the affidavit states.

The woman claimed Gibbs followed them through the aisles of the store for several minutes and that she felt “extremely uncomfortable and frightened by the situation,” the affidavit states.

Video surveillance from the supermarket shows Gibbs walking directly behind the family while shopping and placing his phone on the floor under the girl’s skirt.

“(Gibbs) then pretended to put items on the shelves and began talking to the victim while his cell phone was on the floor under her skirt,” the affidavit states.

Surveillance footage shows the mother and daughter walking into another aisle and Gibbs taking his cellphone, following the couple and putting it back on the ground. The affidavit states Gibbs followed them through the store for about 29 minutes but stopped when the woman noticed his cellphone.

Management told police that Gibbs did not have any items that needed to be replenished in the aisles he visited.

According to police, Gibbs had previously been arrested for video voyeurism in 2021 and was on probation at the time of the incident.

He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail on Monday, according to arrest records.
