Shots fired during road rage incident near Elmira-Corning Airport – Finger Lakes Daily News

A shot was fired in an incident of driving aggression near the Elmira Corning Regional Airport in the city of Big Flats on Monday.

As part of their investigation, state police said the driver of a Dodge Dakota pickup truck with a Colorado license plate fired a handgun at another motorist driving a Toyota Rav4. The victim, whose identity is unknown, was interviewed and a bullet hole was found in the passenger door. The suspect was later tracked down and identified as 40-year-old Jacob Heckman of Denver, Colorado. A further search of the area found a .380 caliber Ruger handgun that was illegally possessed in New York.

Heckman was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and reckless endangerment, both felonies.

Heckman was taken to the Chemung County Jail on bail.

The New York State Police were assisted on scene by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office and the Horseheads Police Department.
