Local gun shops fall victim to burglaries

Local gun shops fall victim to burglaries

COLORADO SPRINGS — Two Colorado Springs gun stores are the latest victims of blitz burglaries. They were hit early this morning, one at Barnes Road and Powers Boulevard, the other at Garden of the Gods Road and Centennial Boulevard.

Springs police told us the same car was used in both crimes and that they are looking for more than one burglar. Additionally, guns were stolen from one store but not the other.

News5’s Piper Vaughn gave a voice to gun store owners who voiced their concerns and said what they are doing to protect their stores.

Douglas Swords is the manager of the DCF Gun Club, one of the stores that was robbed last night.

“All the front doors were removed, but we have steel roller doors on all accessible openings, so they couldn’t get any further,” he said.

Even though nothing was robbed from his store, he still worries that such a thing even happened.

“We are concerned about the safety of our community and about firearms being released onto the streets and causing harm,” he said.
