The national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.44 as of Tuesday, August 13, three cents less than last week.

A year ago the price was $3.85.

The New York State average is $3.56, down two cents from last week. A year ago, the New York State average was $3.91.

AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:

  • Batavia – $3.56 (1 cent more than last Monday)
  • Buffalo – $3.57 (1 cent less than last Monday)
  • Elmira – $3.37 (4 cents less than last Monday)

  • Rome – $3.62 (2 cents less than last Monday)
  • Syracuse – $3.53 (2 cents less than last Monday)
  • Watertown – $3.58 (2 cents less than last Monday)

According to AAA, the national average price for a gallon of gasoline has dropped three cents since last week and is now back to June price levels. Worries about Hurricane Debby are over now that the storm has passed. However, tensions in the Middle East and some economic uncertainty abroad could impact oil prices. This morning, oil prices remain low – between $77 and $80 a barrel. The latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) shows that gas demand has fallen slightly while production has increased. Lower gasoline demand, increasing supply and stable oil prices could lead to lower prices at the pump.

When it comes to electric vehicle charging, national and state average prices for Level 2 commercial electricity remain the same as a week ago. The current national average for a kilowatt-hour of electricity at a Level 2 commercial charging station is 34 cents. An estimated 1.2 million AAA members live in households with one or more electric vehicles.

For motorists who use diesel fuel, the national average price for diesel is $3.75, four cents less than last Monday. The New York average is $4.18, two cents less than last Monday.
