Tulum, QR — Following meetings between state officials and the Tulum airport administration, an agreement was reached to reduce tourist transportation fees. Public transportation fees to and from Tulum International Airport will now be more in line with those at Cancun Airport.

On Monday, the Quintana Roo Tourism Secretariat reported that an agreement was reached on August 7 on new tariffs that came into effect on August 11.

“Thanks to the efforts of Governor Mara Lezama and the collaboration of the Administration of Tulum International Airport, the General Directorate of Olmeca-Maya-Mexica Airport and the Railway and Auxiliary Services Group, both sides were able to agree on new rates for occasional access to the Federal Zone for tourist ground transportation at the airport.

These rates apply to companies offering pre-booked services, such as travel agents and timeshare companies operating in this popular tourist destination.

In order to enter the Federal Zone and offer their services, tourist transport companies must be duly registered as Mexican commercial companies, in accordance with current regulations.

The new rates, which will come into effect on August 11, 2024 and will be valid for eight months, are 100 pesos for tourist transport vehicles, 150 pesos for vans, 200 pesos for minibuses and 400 pesos for buses.

This measure is intended to ensure that national and international tourists can trust that transport service providers have proper accreditation from the airport authorities.

“This tariff adjustment is part of the efforts of the Government of Quintana Roo to ensure a competitive and quality service at the airport and to seek cheaper and fairer prices for the thousands of tourists who arrive at Tulum International Airport,” the Secretariat reported.

The tariffs were adjusted in time for summer travel after repeated complaints about excessive costs for ground transportation, mainly due to the high rates that Sedena charged to transport companies that traveled on federal land.
