The work was part of a major project to modernise the Vienna-Villach railway line, which is a section of the trans-European Baltic-Adriatic Corridor.

The station is now fully accessible for people with disabilities. One of the major changes was the construction of a road bridge to replace the level crossing.

In addition, new parking spaces for cars, bicycles and motorcycles were created, significantly improving the transport infrastructure.

By creating convenient connections to regional bus stops, the station’s accessibility will be improved for passengers. In addition, noise barriers have been built to increase comfort for local residents.

The reconstruction of Wartberg station is just one of numerous initiatives by ÖBB along the Vienna-Villach axis.

As part of the improvement of the railway infrastructure, 200 km of tracks have already been modernized, 170 km of new railway lines have been built, 80 km of tunnels have been constructed and 150 bridges have been built.

This major project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the region’s most important cities.

Once all work is completed, the travel time between Vienna and Klagenfurt (234 km) will be reduced to 2 hours and 40 minutes. Between Graz and Klagenfurt, the travel time will be reduced to 45 minutes.

ÖBB continues to work actively on modernizing the country’s transport infrastructure, thus ensuring the comfort and safety of passengers.
