Is this really the best Mexican food in El Paso?

Is this really the best Mexican food in El Paso?

Our news partners at KVIA have compiled a list of the top-rated Mexican restaurants in El Paso based on Yelp reviews.

This is (always has been and certainly always will be) the most hotly contested issue in El Paso history.

To further fuel that fire and get a few people excited in the process, read on to see not only their list, but my personal favorites as well.

Here are KVIA’s top 8:

  1. El Taquito
  2. Aaajiii tacos and beer
  3. El Toro Bronco
  4. Restaurante El Jacalito
  5. Pepe’s Tamales
  6. Taqueria Sabrosa
  7. Conico – Mexican Restaurant
  8. Mariscos Central

For my personal favorites, I only make a top 5. I also don’t go by reviews or the general quality of the food. (I like them all.)

I base my list on cool things about the restaurants.

The Shelby Cabin

Great Food, very reasonable prices and the weirdest location ever. That’s part of what makes it so cool. They are in the service area of Casa Ford in Montana. Click this link to learn/see more.

Rosa’s Cantina

Marty Robbins’ song alone gives this piece a special atmosphere as a backdrop for the story of love, betrayal and murder set in the West Texas city of El Paso.

The Post Office

I’m a history buff, especially when it comes to the Old West, and the fact that this historic building has seen Wyatt Earp and Billy The Kid definitely earns it a spot on the list. Bonus points for the fact that it’s pretty haunted.

Kiki’s

Another very cool historic building. It used to be a residential building but now it has a nice homey atmosphere to enjoy your meal in. Again, bonus points for ghosts. I haven’t heard any stories but this place MUST be haunted.

Carlos and Mickey’s

Another beautiful setting for dining and (I’m pretty sure) another converted house. Bonus points for being owned by the same guy who brought us Pancho’s Mexican Buffet.

No Chico’s. Sorry.
