Roadwork at Bloomington Airport is expected to restrict traffic in the main drop-off and pick-up area

Roadwork at Bloomington Airport is expected to restrict traffic in the main drop-off and pick-up area

Visitors to the Central Illinois Regional Airport should expect limited access to the main road in front of the Bloomington airport starting next Monday.

As part of the redevelopment of this main road, access to the front curb, where passengers normally board and alight, will be restricted, which could lead to an increase in traffic in this area.

CIRA said in a press release that it encourages visitors to use the short-term parking lot to pick up and drop off passengers; parking in this lot is free.

Work on CIRA’s main road will be divided into four phases and is expected to take 12 weeks.

According to CIRA, daily traffic patterns at the airport are expected to change and drivers will be guided by flags and traffic signs.

The road reconstruction is one of three major improvement projects currently underway at the nearly 2,000-acre airport. On June 6, CIRA began the second phase of an ongoing project to relocate the airport’s general storage area on the site to meet Federal Aviation Administration standards.

The project is expected to be completed in 2025.

CIRA is owned and operated by the Bloomington-Normal Airport Authority.
