Restaurant in Hollywood Beach hit again by Molotov cocktail

Restaurant in Hollywood Beach hit again by Molotov cocktail

HOLLYWOOD, Florida. – For a restaurant on Hollywood Beach, it’s déjà vu all over again.

This is the second time someone has tried to set fire to the store. Police are now trying to determine whether the same person is responsible.

Surveillance video shows a man attempting to set fire to the Broadwalk restaurant early Tuesday morning.

The footage shows the suspect in a red car approaching the restaurant at 1400 N. Surf Road and then throwing what appears to be a Molotov cocktail into the driveway directly in front of the business.

“We have no idea who the person is or why they are doing this,” said Denis De Almeida, manager of the Broadwalk restaurant.

Hollywood police said officers arrived shortly before 5 a.m. and found charred sidewalks, but there was no sign of the driver, who had already fled the scene.

“It looks like the guy struck again – according to our footage, it’s the same person, the same car,” De Almeida said.

If this crime sounds familiar, it’s because a similar incident occurred at the same restaurant in late June.

In this case, the perpetrator apparently drove the same red car and again threw a Molotov cocktail at the same spot in front of the store.

“Fortunately, it didn’t hit the building, but if it hits the building, it will hit everyone,” said De Almeida. “We have people here, myself included, who have to feed their families.”

Although the manager said there was no significant damage to the building, he fears they may have less luck if the arsonist returns.

“It could happen to anyone, so if you see something, say something,” De Almeida said.

Hollywood Police are currently investigating to determine if the two incidents are related and if the same person is responsible.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
