We want pickles! Bring back the Pickle Sub Shop in Northfield, NJ

We want pickles! Bring back the Pickle Sub Shop in Northfield, NJ

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that when it comes to food, I’m usually up for anything. I love trying new places, cuisines, recipes, anything. I wouldn’t say I’m a picky eater.

My weirdest food obsession is probably pickles. Gianna, the owner of Smithville Pickle Company and Ocean City Pickle Company, will be the first to confirm that I come to the store a few times a year to stock up on my favorite foods. I’ve gotten to try all kinds of pickles at her store and am SO grateful that she decided to open her two stores here in South Jersey.

The other place I really wanted to visit was the pickle sandwich shop right on Tilton Road in Northfield. Do you remember the place? It was first called Elsie’sThe name was quickly changed to Peace Love Cucumbers and it seemed to be a success in Atlantic County for a year or two. All of a sudden they closed up shop and were never heard from again.

I LOVED this little shop. Instead of taking a bun for your hoagies (or subs, whatever you want to call it) they used pickles. It was DELICIOUS. In 2022 they said goodbye in Irish fashion and closed the shop never to be heard from again. Apparently there were rumors that the entire franchise was closing for good so the owners could focus on other things, but for those of us who ordered from there a lot, this is a total bust.
