Diamondbacks’ Eduardo Rodriguez finishes his home debut strong

PHOENIX – Arizona Diamondbacks starter Eduardo Rodriguez threw five innings with three earned runs in his first home game at Chase Field on Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies.

Rodriguez, who missed the first four months with a shoulder problem, allowed six hits and a walk and struck out five batters in his second start of the season, making 83 pitches compared to 65 in his debut for the D-backs last week against the Cleveland Guardians.

After a rocky third inning, Rodriguez ended his night on a high note.

The veteran made it through the first inning with ease, throwing seven pitches – aided by a pike catch by Jake McCarthy.

The next two were more laborious. It took 49 pitches to get through the second and third innings, allowing all three runs. Colorado managed two runs on four hits in the third inning.

Rodriguez finished his outing with two 1-2-3 innings, striking out the last seven batters he faced.

The left-hander left the mound when his team was within striking distance at 3-2. He didn’t allow much hard contact, as the Rockies hit just four balls over 95 mph. Most of their hits came from throws outside the zone or on the black.

Rodriguez also showed off his five-pitch mix with a four-seamer, a sinker, a cutter, a changeup and a slider.

At Rodriguez’s first home game, Chase Field had a crowd of 19,731.
