17 of the best tennis courts and clubs in San Diego

17 of the best tennis courts and clubs in San Diego

Do you think the surfers and sailors in this city have it made? The waves can stay flat for weeks, and wind and daylight are limited. Tennis players, on the other hand, certainly have it. They can don their pleated skirts and headbands and enjoy groundstrokes, volleys, serves and smashes nearly 365 days a year—and nights on lighted courts!

There are 159 courses in the city of San Diego alone, with more than 140 of them equipped with lighting for nighttime play. You can find a comprehensive list of courses that includes high schools, parks, and even backboards and practice walls in your neighborhood here. But we’ve picked out the best places to play. Club membership is a big deal, but many of these courses are open to the public for the pleasant price of free.
