Travelers look forward to the unveiling of the renovated terminal at PDX International Airport

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) – PDX International Airport will unveil its newly renovated terminal on Wednesday, and FOX 12 got a sneak peek the day before.

“I’ve had a little glimpse of what will be revealed tomorrow and I’m very, very excited,” Reyes said.

Portland resident Rogerio Reyes, along with his children Esteban and Julia, are among the local travelers eagerly awaiting the much-needed renovation of Portland International Airport.

“You always have the end result in mind, which is to have a new building that’s going to be very cool,” Reyes said. “I really like their advertising of what it’s going to be like, so it’s worth it.”

This phase of the terminal project, which cost more than $2 billion and took three years to complete, will include new shops, restaurants, art installations and security checkpoints.

PDX has given a sneak peek to Fox 12 Oregon and even held “dress rehearsals” to ensure the opening goes smoothly. But tomorrow, passengers from around the world will arrive for the first time and see the space seemingly transformed overnight.

“The improvements will be a treat for the eyes,” says Portland native Crystal Wilson, who just flew in from St. Louis but will be back next month to check it all out.

“Yeah, I’m super excited because I have to get to Portland an hour or two early because you never know what to expect,” Wilson said. “But I’m excited because it’s probably going to make traveling a lot easier.”

The renovation is not only meant to please the legs, but also the eye. A greener place with a Portland flair for everyone who comes and goes in the Rose City.

“Portland is known for various sculptures and art installations, so I’m curious to see what they have in store,” Wilson said.

And the Reyes family will have a first-class view of the new accommodations on one of the first flights on Wednesday.

“I will still come three hours early just to have dinner or lunch here, and tomorrow there will be coffee again at 6 a.m.,” Reyes said.
