Police investigate break-in at Milkman restaurant in OTR

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Cincinnati police are looking for two people who broke into the Milkman restaurant in Over-The-Rhine Thursday morning.

Surveillance video showed a man and a woman breaking into the restaurant by throwing a large rock through a glass window. They searched the cash registers for money but found nothing.

General manager Kate Horner said they hope to have the damage caused by the break-in repaired by next week, but she still feels that some damage has been done to her business.

“You know it stinks,” Horner said. “When I came in, there was glass everywhere. You probably saw our social media post. There was a big hole and then the whole floor was full of glass. It took a while to clean it all up.”

Horner said the restaurant does not keep money in the till and surveillance video shows the woman taking drinks from the refrigerator before leaving the restaurant through the back door.

The video shows the two sitting on furniture in front of the restaurant with their faces covered before the break-in.

“The couple definitely knew what they were doing,” Horner said.

Horner said that despite the break-in, the community came together to support the restaurant once word got out.

“Today, a lot of people came out and supported us,” Horner said. “They wanted to donate, support us, or buy food. We have a great community behind us and it was great to see and feel that today.”

Cincinnati police are also investigating a possible break-in at City Gear, which is next door to Milkman, where there was boarded-up glass on its building. Officers said they are working to get video of the incident at City Gear and do not know if it is related to the break-in at Milkman.
