TikTok challenge could have caused Wal-Mart fire, says mayor

EUFAULA, Alabama (WDHN) – New information has emerged following a fire at Walmart over the weekend that forced the closure of the popular department store.

According to Eufaula Mayor Jack Tibbs, the fire was believed to be arson and possibly part of a TikTok challenge that has damaged other Walmart stores in the past.

Police Chief Danny Christ told WDHN that three juvenile suspects were being sought, but no arrests had been made yet.

The fire reportedly broke out in the store’s appliance department on Saturday evening.

“We are grateful to local emergency responders for their quick response to the fire at our store at 3176 S Eufaula Ave on Saturday evening,” said Amber Girdley, representative of Walmart Corporate Affairs & Global Communications.

Mayor Tibbs says the fire has impacted those needing medication from the now-closed pharmacy, but curbside pickup of medications is scheduled to begin Wednesday.
