AN AIRPORT WORKER was crushed to death by an elevator. Horrified passengers heard the screams but could not help.

Wisatrat Tangsoh, a 22-year-old mechanic, was working at the bottom of an elevator shaft at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport when the two-ton glass cabin collapsed.

Shocked travelers heard screams of pain as they passed by, but were helpless to face the horror.

Employees of the Asian Elevator Co. rushed to the scene and found Wisatrat’s crushed body in a pool of blood at the bottom of the shaft.

It is believed that he descended to the bottom to retrieve a wrench.

But as the lift slowly began to descend, Wisatrat met his terrible fate.

He was trapped below and unable to prevent the heavy cabin from crashing.

Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene after suffering a catastrophic head injury.

The crime scene was cordoned off while rescue workers recovered his body and sent it for an autopsy.

In a statement, Suvarnabhumi International Airport said it had not properly followed safety precautions, which led to the fatal accident.

It continues: “Airports of Thailand (AOT) has coordinated with doctors and police to examine the crime scene together with forensic experts.”

“AOT has temporarily cordoned off the area.

“We would like to confirm that the accident was not caused by a malfunction of the elevator in the area.

“The AOT would like to express its condolences to the family of the deceased.

“We will fully cooperate with the investigation to determine the cause of the accident.”

It is not the first horror story to come to light from Bangkok in recent weeks.

In July, six people were found dead in a hotel room at the Grand Hyatt, which is located in the middle of a popular tourist district.

Then Thai police found traces of the deadly poison cyanide in teacups.

There were no signs of a struggle and meals remained on the table.

Police were investigating whether a financial dispute had led to the mass poisoning, in which members of the group were proven to have invested money together.

Local media reported that a woman poisoned the five other members of the group and herself.
