Monster Jam trucks are built (and rebuilt) in a huge fleet workshop in Palmetto

PALMETTO, Fla. – Monster Jam trucks are meant to roar and roll and cause lots of mayhem.

But these beasts with the big wheels – the most famous of which is of course Grave Digger – also need a lot of care.

42 Monster Jam trucks travel the world to kick up dust. They are born and put together on the huge field entertainment campus in Palmetto.

“Basically, we do everything from scratch in the Monster Jam fleet shop,” said Dustin Brown, operations manager. “We build brand new trucks. We do everything from building the engines to servicing the trucks to building the chassis and maintaining them so they can go out on the road every weekend and perform. Everything comes out of this shop here.”

Monster Jam is taking over the Amalie Arena this weekend. (Tickets are available here.) Many of the trucks used in the local shows are still being pimped out and maintained in Palmetto by dozens of skilled craftsmen, including brand new bodies and new paint jobs.

“Generally, we try to get two and a half events out of a body,” said Bob Gnos, body shop manager.

He added that some drivers are tougher on the trucks than others.

“But I won’t name any names,” he said with a smile.
