New gluten-free doughnut shop in Wyandotte funds cancer research – The News Herald

When Raleigh Minning was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma cancer at 34 weeks pregnant in 2018, she began researching the type of cancer she had but couldn’t find much information about it.

Therefore, she made it her mission to raise further funds for research into the disease.

She started selling gluten-free doughnuts in her South Carolina neighborhood and donating the proceeds to cancer research. When she moved to the Downriver area two years ago, she began selling her gluten-free doughnuts to local grocery stores and farmers markets. That’s how Made with Love Donuts was born.

“The response was overwhelming. People came from all over and the items sold out very quickly,” she said.

Minning’s son has celiac disease, which is why she started making gluten-free doughnuts in the first place. Minning said it was frustrating to go out to eat and find that all the gluten-free options were so expensive.

“I thought to myself: Why are they charging too much? I am a mother of four children, so I know exactly how much everything costs,” she said.

So when she saw a storefront in Wyandotte, she decided it was time to take her gluten-free doughnut business to the next level. On August 22, she will host the grand opening of Kay’s – a gluten-free doughnut shop that also sells other gluten-free products.

Kay’s is located at 1004 Oak Street.

But Minning said that despite having a brand new store, she will put all of her profits back into her business or donate them to cancer research or local cancer patients.
