The food truck East Coast Konz from Seville serves pizza in a bag

The world is upside down.

A local food truck is making waves among foodies by combining the universal love of ice cream cones and the craving for pizza to create a rather unique dish.

Rest assured that Seville-based East Koast Konz does not serve anchovy-garnished ice cream in a cone.

Instead, they use the traditional ice cream cone shape to create a hot pizza treat that is new to the Northeast Ohio dining scene.

The new food truck, which launched earlier this summer, is currently making the rounds at festivals and events in the area.

What is a pizza cone?

Russ and Kerry Talmon said they were interested in opening a food truck, but wanted to try something new beyond the usual lemonade and barbecue options.

A friend told them about a food truck they had visited in another state that sold pizza in a cone.

Russ said they tried it themselves and loved it from the first bite.

The couple lives in Westfield and also owns the health and beauty business Pure Cryo in Medina’s historic square.

So they spent the following months planning and equipping the food truck.

Although the concept is relatively new in the United States, it is already enjoying great popularity abroad.

The special oven, which heats the pizza bags to up to 300 degrees so that the cheese melts nicely, is made in Italy.

And the special pizza dough bags also come from Italy.

Russ said they’re still tinkering with the final products, but they offer several varieties, from the cheese pizza cone ($7) to one with pepperoni or sausage, or deluxe with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms and olives for $8.

They even offer dessert pizza cones in a variety of flavors for $6.

And for Fido, there’s a puppy pizza cone with peanut butter and Milkbone sprinkles for $5.

Russ said they try to source ingredients locally and use meat from Keller Meats.

After the ingredients are added to the cone, it takes about three minutes for it to rotate through the hot oven.

Russ says once customers understand the concept and pick up the cone, they love it and often come back for a second one.

“The events have been incredibly busy so far,” he said.

The end result is a very tasty pizza variation that is perfect for snacking on while strolling through a fair or festival.

They serve it with a fork, but I found it pretty easy to eat it without.

This way I could enjoy every bite of the gooey cheese.
