Park City Pulse: New directors bring fresh energy to the chamber

Welcoming new board members is always exciting, and that goes for both sides. Our six newly elected board members are bursting with ideas and energy and are eager to help us better represent our companies and serve the community.

You will be part of a panel selected by our partners and leadership team that is a great representative of the broad economic spectrum of Park City. You will find hoteliers, restaurant owners, the leaders of our arts and culture, ski resort executives, housing and real estate professionals, service providers and nonprofit representatives.

Allow me to introduce you to our six newest members, who begin their four-year terms this month.

Beth Armstrong: As CEO of Marcella, Beth’s community involvement is matched only by her extensive background in healthcare. The former director of the People’s Health Clinic and board member of Wasatch Back Hospital is a go-to resource for public health issues. While in California, Beth’s roles have included controllership at Cedar Sinai Cancer Center and Northridge Medical Center. Beth serves on the board as a representative of Intermountain Health.

Dan Bullert: Dan credits his leadership skills to his service in the U.S. Navy, which he developed over decades as a hotel manager in the Park City area. He was president of the Park City Area Lodging Association and is a graduate of the Park City Police Citizen’s Academy. In 2019, he founded Dishes for the Deployed to help military families.

Chris Lawing: Chris, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Pendry, came to Park City in 2010 to help open the Montage Deer Valley after a 13-year career at the Ritz Carlton. He has also worked at Sheraton, Radisson and Choice hotels in the Washington, DC area. Chris was appointed to the board to replace a retiring member and has now been elected to a full term.

Jocelyn Scudder: Jocelyn has served as the director of the Park City Summit County Arts Council since 2018. She brings more than 10 years of local arts experience to the board, based on her previous experience as an education manager at the Kimball Arts Center. Jocelyn is a New England native, avid skier, and graduate of St. Lawrence University in New York.

Gar Traynor: A 2002 Olympian and current General Manager of Woodward Park City, Gar brings a wealth of experience in sports management and insight into the needs of international athletes, which will be critical as Park City prepares for the 2034 Olympic Games. Gar was the Director of Sports Education at US Ski & Snowboard and was a member of the Great Britain National Alpine Ski Team.

Sherry Weber: Sherry is a native of Buffalo, New York, and has lived in Park since 1990. She worked in the travel industry for 19 years before joining the Hyatt Centric as Director of Sales, Marketing and Events. She is a graduate of Park City Leadership (Class of ’21) and Leadership Utah. She was also a member of the Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce’s Business Women’s Forum for four years.

Several valuable directors are leaving the Board: former Board Chair Brooks Kirchheimer, Shaydar Edelmann, Greg Gendron, Chelsea Steinbach, Lindsay Arnold and Jill Gildea. I am grateful for their many volunteer hours and outstanding insights. We will miss their service, but I know them to be dedicated and committed leaders who will continue to make Park City better.

With membership numbers growing and our Annual Meeting, Fall Tourism Forum and first winter season under the Mountainkind brand coming up in the coming weeks and months, we are delighted to have these experienced, visionary individuals add their voices to the Chamber’s policy and direction. Exciting and challenging years lie ahead!

Jennifer Wesselhoff is President and CEO of the Park City Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau.
