To be clear, the Ugreen 300W 48,000mAh portable charger is compact only compared to a large power station. Its 4.1-pound weight isn’t ideal for a backpack or purse, but it’s much smaller than five 10,000mAh batteries would have been a few years ago.

The battery is great for transporting around the house, garden, car or similar situations. The carrying handle makes it easy to take with you. Camping might be the perfect use for this device, but keeping it in the house for backup power is also not out of the question.

There is a light strip on the side of the battery with low, high and SOS lighting modes. If you want to use it just as a light, it will last 115 to 150 hours depending on the brightness level. I liked that the battery had a light, but I often forgot about it.

That’s extreme usage and would waste the battery’s five USB ports. Three USB-C ports flank the bottom and two USB-A ports are above. Depending on how many ports are in use at once determines how much power each one can deliver.

The full diagram is complicated, but the key thing you need to know is that the first USB-C port allows for 140W of output (and input) power, a single USB-A port manages 22.5W of output power, and all three USB-C ports can be used simultaneously to handle 100W of output power each.

The finer details are the best parts

The large battery capacity, more than enough to charge a 15-inch MacBook Air M2, is great. The fast power delivery is also fantastic. These are to be expected, though. The same goes for Ugreen’s stated safety protection against overcharging, high temperatures or short circuits. Consumers simply expect these batteries to be safe by default.

What I like most about the Ugreen 300W 48,000mAh portable charger is probably its smart screen. (I think all batteries should have a display though.)

The display shows the current charge level and the charging and discharging speed. I don’t necessarily need to see how fast my X100VI camera is charging with a USB-C cable, but it is interesting to see the 7W light up on the display. It is great to be able to confirm that the Ugreen battery is charging at top speed as well.

If you didn’t know that most devices reduce their charging speed when their batteries are full, you might be able to see that right on the Smart Display. It might have been nice to see more individual data per USB port on the screen, or heat, but I also like the minimalism and clean design of the low data amount.

While it’s not that important, I also like that there are rubber feet on the bottom of the battery and on the back. You can use the device upright or on its back without it rubbing against the surface.

Should you buy Ugreen 300W 48000mAh portable charger?

The Ugreen 300W 48,000mAh portable charger is designed to be a fast, powerful and compact battery. And that’s exactly what it is. The abundance of ports also makes it convenient for families who spend time away from home. Everyone can plug in at the same time.

The $199 retail price is a bit high, but I’ve only seen the battery on sale, usually for around $169 or less. In this case, it’s hard to beat unless you specifically need a physically smaller, lighter battery to carry around. Still, I like the built-in light, smart display, and versatility of this battery for just about any electronic power need.
