Where to buy the best outfits from season four of Emily in Paris

Where to buy the best outfits from season four of Emily in Paris

Emily in Paris is back for its long-awaited fourth season, hooray! And while that inevitably means more drama, more love triangles, and more musical numbers (we can’t wait to see Mindy at Eurovision, to be honest), we’re *most* excited about the fashion.

Because if there’s one thing you can rely on in the hit Netflix series, it’s the expressive ensembles of the show’s leading actresses, Emily Cooper, Mindy Chen and Camille. Portrayed by Lily Collins, Ashley Park and Camille Razat.

And for season four, the clothing is bigger and better than ever: 1,000 costumes, 2,500 pairs of shoes (including the character’s first pair of ballet flats!) and 350 bags. Everything was coordinated up to a year in advance by costume designer Marylin Fitoussi, who worked with famed costume designer Patricia Field on seasons one and two—whose credits include Sex and the City, Ugly Betty and The Devil Wears Prada—before taking the reins alone for seasons three and now four.

Marylin tells Cosmopolitan UK about the reflective process of bringing the characters’ wardrobes to life. “We never have a script before filming starts… so I imagine situations and create a library of looks. We prepare 20 looks for the office, 10 for parties” and so on, she says. “Once the character Emily has been approved by Darren (Star, the show’s creator), I can move on to the looks for the other characters so that they all look good together.”

Not knowing what the script calls for in each scene means that some outfits never appear on screen. “In season three, we had a beautiful haute couture dress that we said we would keep for a big event, a big party, but that big party never happened, so we couldn’t show the dress.” As a result, Marylin revealed that her mantra for this season was to prioritize the best outfits. “If there’s a bigger party, we find another, bigger, nicer dress.”

So what can viewers and fashionistas expect from season four? Emily’s signature romance and eclectic style remain, but have been reinterpreted in new, sharper silhouettes. One of Marylin’s favorite outfits from the entire series is a black vinyl Balmain look adorned with oversized patent flowers, which the character wears to a party for this reason. “It’s much sexier and more sensual, and we’re not used to seeing her like that,” she explains.

Marylin consciously mirrors Emily’s character development through the evolution of her wardrobe and also has plenty of Easter eggs for fans to look out for. A butterfly bag she carries during the season’s most romantic interaction is a physical metaphor for the feeling of having butterflies in your stomach. In the final episode, a gingham and plaid outfit is worn, reminiscent of a similar outfit Emily wore in season one. “I’m not sure if it’s super obvious, but we said, ‘Okay, let’s see if people see this,'” Marylin admits, not wanting to give too much away. Can you spot it?

As in previous seasons, Marylin pays tribute to her sources of inspiration with the costumes. Look for numerous nods to Audrey Hepburn in Emily’s black and white striped catsuit, which she wears to a My Fair Lady-themed ball, while a fur hat and coat ensemble recalls the Hollywood icon’s 1966 film Charade. “We also did a little homage to Pretty Woman when she – oh, I can’t tell you,” Marylin begins, before quickly cutting herself off.

Emily seems to have the perfect party dress for every occasion. Her cream and pink floral mini dress channels her signature OTT aesthetic with voluminous floral cuffs, collar and hems. This Sister Jane version features an almost identical print, with the brand sharing Emily’s penchant for puff sleeves and bows.

When she’s not wearing neon colors, Emily often goes for bold prints – she’s not a minimalist! Case in point: this retro-patterned V-neck blouse with wide sleeves, paired with green tailored high-waisted shorts.

A striped button-down shirt and layered knit are the workwear of choice for many, but few would clash patterns as brazenly as Emily does in her blue version (check out the matching tie), which she wears with a brown checked cardigan over the top. To create a similar look, we like the idea of layering a leopard print sweater vest over the top. After all, leopard print is neutral.

Dress like a boardroom boss and Sylvie (or your personal equivalent) will have to listen. Take a cue from Emily’s style and opt for traditional tailored cuts in an on-trend bright cobalt blue. Bonus points if you pair your tailored trousers with cowboy boots inspired by Emily’s black Rabanne Chelsea boots and a Pierre Hardy Alpha leather shoulder bag for a cool-girl touch.

Even if Emily’s Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini green floral satin set wasn’t sold out, it would be way out of our price range. The same goes for the pink Jacquemus La Maille ribbed bolero jacket she wore over it. Thankfully, Urban Outfitters has released its own pink cropped cardigan, while Reformation’s Overland Silk Top has a very similar composition of green satin and delicate florals. To accessorize, Emily’s exact same Kate Spade bag – now on sale!

You can just about see Emily in the edge of this shot introducing new cast member Eugenio Franceschini as Marcello. And as distracted as we may have been by the new lookers, nothing could stop us from noticing Emily’s pink and brown plaid trench coat and matching bucket hat combo, which we’re told is from London-based women’s fashion brand Lisou. So cute!

The fishing hat is not available in this exact colorway, but there are plenty of other prints you might like.
