Police in Shelby Twp. catch trio with counterfeit money and stolen guns in cosmetics store – Macomb Daily

A special team of the Shelby Township police is responsible for the arrest of three people for possession of counterfeit money and stolen weapons.

According to a press release, the police Directed Patrol Unit (DPU) was dispatched to Ulta Beauty on Hall Road on July 30 after a manager reported that a woman was inside the store attempting to pay with a counterfeit $100 bill.

When confronted, the female suspect, later identified as Keijoya Greenaway, left the store and entered a vehicle. Police conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the four occupants.

“While officers were speaking with the occupants, the driver stated that there was a handgun in the vehicle,” a police press release said. “It was later confirmed that this handgun had been stolen from North Carolina.”

Police also discovered another loaded handgun in the car, as well as about $2,500 in counterfeit money and fraudulently obtained goods, the press release said. All four occupants were arrested.

Three suspects were arraigned on August 1 in 41A District Court in Shelby Township.

Greenaway was charged with possession of counterfeit money and coin and issuing and publishing counterfeit money. Judge James Verploeg set her bail at $100,000 cash/surety.

Khyre Block was charged with possession of counterfeit and counterfeit money, receiving and concealing a stolen weapon, issuing counterfeit money, illegal possession of a weapon and possession of ammunition by a prohibited person. His bail was set at $500,000 cash/surety.

A third suspect, Anthony Williams, was also charged with possession of counterfeit currency and issuing counterfeit currency. His bail was set at $100,000 cash/surety.

The fourth inmate was a 17-year-old youth.

Police Chief Robert Shelide said the DPU is a pilot program implemented to increase patrol activity and target criminals. The goal of the program is to provide a longer presence through aggressive, problem-oriented enforcement.

Since its inception, the Directed Patrol Unit has seized several stolen vehicles, stopped possible criminal activities and taken several stolen weapons off the streets, the press release said.
