Application to build a grocery store in the former Rockledge Pub submitted, hearing scheduled for August 19

Application to build a grocery store in the former Rockledge Pub submitted, hearing scheduled for August 19

Rockledge Borough will hold two land use planning hearings in August and September.

The first event will take place on Monday, August 19th at 7pm at City Hall and will involve the property at 7 Huntingdon Pike, the former site of the Rockledge Pub, which closed earlier this year.

According to District Manager Bryan Poster, applicant Ahmed Darsalim wants to build a supermarket on the property, which is owned by Sanad Properties LLC. Darsalim plans to lease the property.

Poster pointed out that the current application was the third of its kind and that previous applicants’ plans had failed due to parking problems.

“One was going to be a candy store, but after the hearing they backed out. The second was a hookah bar, and their application was denied,” said Poster. “With commercial buildings, you need a certain number of spaces per resident, that was the problem. There’s just not a lot of space there.”

The second hearing was rescheduled for Wednesday, September 18 due to a scheduling conflict with the applicant, who intends to pave the grassy lot behind the building at 612 Huntingdon Pike.

The second hearing was originally scheduled for Monday, August 19.
