Improvements proposed for disc golf and bike paths in Hindman Park

Little Rock is calling all disc golfers together tomorrow night at the Hindman Park Pro Shop to discuss the future of the park’s 18-hole course.

The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. This event is part of a campaign to encourage outdoor enthusiasts and takes place immediately after a meeting with mountain bikers on August 1st.

Little Rock Parks and Recreation began developing a plan to improve Hindman Park with the $14 million that could flow to Hindman if Mayor Frank Scott Jr.The sales tax proposal will be approved by voters in November.

The Results in the Rock sales tax proposal would generate $650 million over 10 years to make public investments in public safety, homelessness, affordable housing, infrastructure and the Port Authority.

And under Mayor Scott’s proposal, a majority (47%) of the revenue from the 1-cent sales tax increase would be used for “parks and quality of life.” Projects include a 15-acre downtown park, improvements to the Little Rock Zoo, and a new senior center with pickleball, among others.

Mayor Scott’s first proposal to increase the sales tax failed in 2021 after about 62% of voters rejected the proposal. Voters will vote on the new proposal on November 5.

Hindman Park is a 150-acre forested area in southwest Little Rock. The Parks and Recreation Department is currently exploring the possibility of connecting Brodie Creek Park and Western Hills through Hindman Park.

Parks and Recreation Authority officials will discuss these ideas in more detail at a final meeting on Sept. 5.
