ABOUT RESTAURANT INSPECTIONS

This is a snapshot of inspections conducted by the Marion County Health Department.

Twice a year, unannounced inspections are conducted in licensed restaurants to check food temperature, preparation practices, employee hygiene, dishwashing and disinfection, and the cleanliness of equipment and premises.

Violations: Restaurants are rated on a 100-point scale. Violations of priority criteria result in 5 points being deducted, and violations of non-priority criteria result in 3 points being deducted. Violations found during consecutive inspections result in double points being deducted.

SCore removal: A score of 70 or higher is considered compliant. Restaurants with a score below 70 must be re-inspected within 30 days or face closure or other administrative action. Restaurants will display a sign at the entrance indicating whether they passed their last inspection.
