Legacy Food Group acquires distributor Halsey Foodservice

Virginia-based independent distributor holding group Legacy Food Group (LFG) has acquired Halsey Foodservice (Halsey). Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Based in Madison, Alabama, Halsey is a family-owned grocery wholesaler and the last founding member of CODE, a wholesaler buying group.

Halsey’s President and CEO Cecilia Halsey orchestrated expansion efforts to accommodate the company’s business growth, including the construction of a 250,000-square-foot distribution center. The distribution center includes a meat processing center for the company’s fresh meat division and a produce processing facility for the produce division.

“Joining the Legacy Food Group gives us immediate support to grow our business and drive new revenue growth,” Halsey’s COO and Senior EVP Terry Giles said in an Aug. 13 press release. “For us, it’s a win-win; we can retain the operational autonomy that resonates so well with our customer base while enjoying the benefits that come from group collaboration.”

Halsey will retain its company name and current management team. The company will remain independent of LFG and will operate as an operating division of LFG.

“Halsey is the perfect partner for us to enter the growing Southeast foodservice region. Halsey brings more than 140 years of rich history and family heritage, highly skilled employees and sales teams, and strong exclusive brands and service concepts that resonate with operators,” said Steve Push, CEO of LFG. “We will continue to pursue our strategic plan to bring together independent foodservice distributors interested in the dynamic growth that comes from group collaboration, economies of scale and shared resources.”

This acquisition represents LFG’s fifth acquired business unit, which also includes Keck’s Food Service, M&V Provisions, Thomsen Foodservice and Best Mexican Foods.
