Local sports card shop owner excited about the future of sports cards and memorabilia

Local sports card shop owner excited about the future of sports cards and memorabilia

FARGO, ND (Valley News Live) – Experts predict that the sports trading card and memorabilia market will reach $50 billion by 2032.

Josh Wolters is the owner of JWW Sports Cards and Gaming. He believes investing in a sports card is like investing in a stock: “It’s like the stock market, so it can change every day. You have to choose the right things to invest in. There are a lot of really good investment opportunities in the industry, whether it’s gaming or sports.”

Wolters says it was his dream to own a card shop since he was a kid. “You know, as a little boy you want to own a card shop, but you never think the idea is realistic until you just put it into action,” Wolters says.

Sports cards and memorabilia can be worth thousands and even millions. The most expensive card ever sold was a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle PSA 10, which sold for a whopping $12.6 million. Wolters says he has a favorite card he owns: “I have a Gunnar Henderson Nike Patch Auto Rookie from Dynasty 1/1,” Wolters said.

Things came full circle this week when Wolters was able to meet Orioles star shortstop Gunnar Henderson and catcher Adley Rutschman at an event in Baltimore, MD on Monday, August 12.

As an owner of a sports card store, you get to meet a lot of people and that’s the best part, according to Wolters: “Getting to see my customers face to face is obviously the best and most rewarding part. Especially when the little kids come in and pull something they really like or find a card of their favorite athlete or Pokémon, I think that’s the best part,” Wolters said.
