Gas leak forces Brockton Neighborhood Health Center to evacuate
On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, a gas leak forced authorities to evacuate the Brockton Neighborhood Health Center. Employees were allowed back into the building at noon.
BROCKTON – A gas leak in downtown Brockton prompted an evacuation of the Brockton Neighborhood Health Center Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
A large gas line was hit at the corner of Main and Green Streets, the Brockton Fire Department wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The Brockton Neighborhood Health Center on Main Street was evacuated after a strong odor of gas was detected, according to an official on the scene.
“People remained calm when they were told to evacuate,” said Mike Berube, pharmacy manager at the Brockton Neighborhood Health Center, who gathered his people at Elvera’s Cafe about two blocks from the health center.
Shortly after noon, the Brockton Fire Department confirmed on X that the gas leak had been fixed and Eversource was on site to make repairs.
The Brockton Neighborhood Health Center confirmed on X that it would close its Main St. building for the rest of the day due to the emergency. The children’s hospital building at 58 Pleasant St., which was previously closed, would reopen for the day, they wrote.
