For David Harris and his wife, paradise must wait.

The couple moved here from North Carolina after signing a contract with Beattie Development to build a home in Cape Coral.

But the house is still not finished and now the police are investigating the builder.

House in Cape Coral not yet finished

“A year and a half ago we would have done it. According to our contract it should have been done in 12 months. Now two and a half years have passed,” said Harris.

Harris says Beattie Development quit his job months ago.

The walls and roof are finished.

However, the interior work is still largely unfinished.

“Our only option at this time is to terminate our contract with them,” Harris said.

Beattie Development, based in Cape Coral, could not be reached for comment.

At their headquarters and showroom, the doors are locked and a sign indicates that they should call to make an appointment.

Harris says he has already contacted Cape Coral police.

Police have not provided any information about what their investigation entails.

Harris, meanwhile, says he had to hire a new contractor to complete his house.

“I’m very excited to see what it will look like. I’m just disappointed that it took this long to get done,” Harris said.
