Shari’s Restaurant in Silverdale could be the second in Kitsap to close

Shari’s Restaurant in Silverdale could be the second in Kitsap to close

Shari’s Cafe and Pies in Silverdale could be the second cafe in the Oregon-based chain to leave Kitsap County in two months after an eviction notice was filed against the owners for months of unpaid rent.

Shari’s Management Corporation, which owns the Silverdale location, has had a lease for the restaurant with Bremerton-based Jasonn Properties LLC since 1991 but has not paid rent since last December, according to documents filed Wednesday in Kitsap County Superior Court.

From January to July, the Sharis of Silverdale had accumulated over $153,000 in unpaid rent, according to the wrongful possession lawsuit. The landlord, Jasonn Properties, added that the Sharis had not paid property taxes for either the second half of 2023 or the first half of 2024, leaving the company with over $12,800 in debt to pay.

Jasonn Properties filed the lawsuit after giving Shari’s a five-day deadline on July 29 to pay rent or vacate, but Shari’s failed to do so within the deadline. The owners are also suing for unpaid rent through August, reimbursement of property taxes and attorney fees.

Bremerton lost its Shari’s Cafe and Pies location less than two months ago in similar circumstances. In 2022, the business became the subject of a lawsuit over $35,000 in unpaid rent and other fees over three months that lawyers say were paid to the wrong address, and finally closed in mid-June after battling with the owners in court for two years.

If Shari’s in Silverdale were to close due to non-payment and litigation, the county would be left with only one Shari’s restaurant, in Port Orchard, in the retail complex at the exit of Highway 16 and Sedgwick Road.

Shari’s closed another restaurant in Yakima on July 8 and will close its final locations in Tacoma and the Tri-Cities in late July and April 2023, respectively.

The management of Shari headquarters could not be reached for comment.
