Emergency Food Network now also open on Saturdays

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – For the first time in over 50 years, the Emergency Food Network is now open on Saturdays.

One board member said that providing a service on Saturday would make it more convenient for people who work during the week and give them the opportunity to help more people.

“We have reached this capacity very often in the last few months, many months. That is why we decided to open on Saturdays as well,” said Miette Michie, CEO of the Emergency Food Network.

Emergency Food Network provides those in need with food for several days and delivers it the same day.

The process of getting on the grocery list is simple.

“People can call our office Monday, Wednesday, Friday and now Saturday,” Michie said.

Those in need must place their orders by telephone on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.

“Then that order will be processed and filled with all the necessary items tailored to the size of your family and then they will be picked up at 900 Harris St. between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.,” Michie said.

The nonprofit organization states that information about household income is not required.
