The US men The basketball team survived a scare against host nation France last week to win the gold medal at the Paris Olympics, but that’s not the only basketball celebration taking place this month.

Shoe brand PF Flyers celebrates the 96th birthday of legendary NBA star Bob Cousy with a special reissue of the Cousy All American High-Top.

Colouring “Sea Salt”

Inspired by the original court sneakers Cousy wore during his time in the league, the hi-top has been reissued in its original “Sea Salt” colorway with flat white laces and contrasting green details. The vintage-inspired silhouette nods to the past with a retro PF Flyers logo patch, chunky sole and rubber toe cap. Modern updates include a new lightweight canvas upper and a more comfortable footbed that features the PF Flyers’ so-called “Magic Foam” sockliner. The look is preppy yet relaxed.

First released in 1958, the Cousy All-American is considered one of the first sneaker endorsements in professional sports. Since then, it has become one of PF Flyers’ most iconic releases, beloved by athletes, fashion fans, and collectors alike.

In addition to the original “Sea Salt” pair above, the Cousy has also been reissued in a classic “Black/Crimson” colorway and an “Antique White/Crimson” option. The latter two pairs are available at PFFlyers.com for $90.

Cousy was a 13-time NBA All-Star and won six championships – all with the Boston Celtics. Nicknamed the “Houdini of the Hardwood,” Cousy was known for both his scoring and passing skills and is widely considered one of the best NBA point guards of all time. According to PF Flyers, both his on-court movements and off-court demeanor demonstrated a “flashy style that was decades ahead of his time.”

Cousy was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1971 and his jersey number was retired by the Celtics in 1963. The NBA Eastern Conference championship trophy is also named in honor of the athlete.

Cousy celebrated his 96th birthday on August 9, making him the oldest living NBA champion. A photo of the basketball star provided by PF Flyers shows him at home in Worcester, Massachusetts, still wearing his signature shoes.

Speaking of shoes, the PF Flyers All-American Cousy is now available in men’s sizes 6 through 16. As with all limited editions, expect the sneakers to sell out quickly, so we recommend grabbing a pair while your size is still in stock. Check out PFFlyers.com for full details.
