Production of the remake, titled “Wizards,” will begin next month, with the premiere scheduled for later this year.

To mark the occasion, Disney released a new image of Selena Gomez and David Henrie as Alex and Justin Russo, with her head on his shoulder, next to a photo from back then of them doing the same.

“Magic, then and now,” reads the caption of the post. “The new series Wizards of Waverly Place is coming this fall!”

Gomez will guest star in the first episode only, while Henrie will star alongside newcomer Max Matenko, who plays Justin’s youngest son, Milo. Both Gomez and Henrie will serve as executive producers.

The reboot begins with Alex Justin seeking help from a powerful young wizard named Billie (played by Janice LeAnn Brown), who lives a normal, non-magical life. He soon realizes that he must brush up on his magical skills to secure the future of the wizarding world.
