A big change is coming for seniors at Walmart

A big change is coming for seniors at Walmart

Walmart is reopening primary care centers just months after closing them.

CenterWell, the health services arm of Humana Inc., will open senior medical care centers in 23 Walmart Supercenter stores. These centers will be located in Florida, Georgia, Missouri and Texas and will occupy space formerly used by Walmart Health.

Brick-and-mortar stores are expected to open their doors in the first months of 2025.

Sanjay Shetty, MD, President of CenterWell, emphasized the organization’s commitment to providing personalized, comprehensive and accessible healthcare to seniors. He highlighted that nearly 24 health centers under CenterWell’s management are specifically designed for seniors and that each location is tailored to their individual needs. Patients can expect the same level of access and convenience that CenterWell clinics have become known for across the country, including dedicated entrances and hassle-free parking.

The clinics feature a team of healthcare professionals including board-certified physicians, nurse practitioners and medical assistants, as well as nurse consultants, social workers, behavioral health specialists and clinical pharmacists to provide comprehensive care to patients.

CenterWell is expanding its reach beyond in-store clinics and is opening senior-focused primary care centers near Walmart Supercenters in several major cities, including Tampa/St. Petersburg, Orlando, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth and Kansas City.

Walmart announced in May that it would close the medical centers it opened in its stores five years ago. The closures of Walmart Health and Walmart Health Virtual Care centers occurred in five states, while the company continued to operate its nearly 4,600 pharmacies and 3,000 vision centers.
