Starbucks opens first store in Ecuador

The global coffeehouse chain Starbucks has opened its first store in Ecuador’s capital Quito.

The opening of the site comes as part of the company’s partnership with Delonorte SA and its continued expansion in Latin America and the Caribbean.th save and 25th market in the region.

“We are incredibly proud to celebrate our 1,700th store in Latin America and the Caribbean with the opening of Ecuador’s first Starbucks café in the historic and vibrant city of Quito,” says Ricardo Arias-NathExecutive Vice President of Starbucks in Latin America and the Caribbean.

“Starbucks has been sourcing high-quality Arabica coffee from Ecuador for over a decade, and with the opening of our first store in the market, we look forward to offering our Ecuadorian customers shared moments over a cup of coffee and continuing the region’s rich coffee tradition.”

Located in the Scala Mall in Quito’s Cumbaya district, the new store is the first of five Starbucks stores scheduled to open in the country this year, with two more cafés also scheduled to open in the Centro Comercial Iñaquito in 2025.

As part of the collaboration, the stores will be operated by Delonorte SA, a subsidiary of Delosi. The company currently manages 120 Starbucks stores in Peru and seven stores in Bolivia.

“Our commitment to Ecuador is long-term. We are excited to get to know the market’s coffee culture and traditions and are honored to open our first store in Ecuador,” says Cristel Delgado, Brand Manager of Starbucks Ecuador.

“We aim to make a positive impact on our communities by creating jobs, creating a third place for our customers, elevating everyday moments and providing tasteful experiences for our partners and customers. This is just the beginning of our efforts to foster connections and celebrate the vibrant spirit of our community.”

The Quito store will feature an indoor terrace overlooking the Scala shopping center, as well as modular wood panels, marble counters and digital menu boards featuring Starbucks’ signature flavors.

To celebrate local culture, the brand collaborated with Ecuadorian artist Apitatán (also known as Juan Sebastián Aguirre Ríos) to create the central mural in the cafe, which depicts a woman surrounded by native animals, while the side columns feature a flowering Guayacán Andino tree, native to Ecuador.

In addition, as part of their commitment to supporting the communities surrounding their cafes, Starbucks Ecuador partners will also participate in a volunteer initiative with the nonprofit organization Junior Achievement Ecuador, whose goal is to clean the San Pedro River in Quito.
