Vietnamese restaurant opens in former Old Country Buffet in Fairfax City

A new Vietnamese cuisine store has opened at Fair City Mall in Fairfax City.

Tucked away in a corner of the mall near the Cinema Arts Theater is 54 Restaurant Bar & Lounge, a Vietnamese restaurant that says it uses fresh ingredients from local farmers. The eatery had an unofficial grand opening on July 18 at 9650 Main Street, Unit 10.

The restaurant’s menu offers a variety of traditional dishes, including fried noodles, vermicelli and rice dishes. There are 14 different fish and seafood dishes to choose from, as well as five house specialties such as grilled beef with five-spice powder and grilled lamb chops.

Drinks include seven different types of tea and Vietnamese iced coffee. Guests can also choose from the restaurant’s six cocktails and twelve beers.

The restaurant has been successful so far, receiving a near-perfect rating on Yelp and Google Reviews since opening on July 18.

“I had a great experience,” wrote one reviewer. “The space is large, the staff was on time and the food was delicious. Definitely my favorite place from now on.”

The restaurant is open Monday to Thursday from 4pm to 11pm. On Fridays and Saturdays it is open late and closes at 2am. On Saturdays and Sundays lunch is available from 11am.

Reservations can be made by telephone at the restaurant.

This is the third restaurant attempting to fill the void left by Old Country Buffet, which closed in 2016 after the chain’s owner filed for bankruptcy. Previous tenants included Breakers Korean BBQ and Grill and Merkado Mexican Grill and Bar.
