The Boston Market restaurant chain is disappearing. Here’s what we know

Boston Market, once a fast-casual food giant with several hundred locations across the United States, appears to be on the verge of complete collapse. The chain has been quietly closing its locations across the country over the past few years, including all of its locations in Arizona.

Restaurant Business Online reported in March 2024 that the chain only had 27 locations nationwide.

The mass closures are attributed to financial and legal problems that have dogged the brand for decades. The restaurant chain was founded in 1985 and first filed for bankruptcy in 1998. Since then, it has changed ownership several times as new investors tried but failed to make the chain profitable.

Boston Market is currently owned by Engage Brands, a subsidiary of Jay Pandya’s Rohan Group.

Are there any Boston Market locations open in the Phoenix metropolitan area?

The restaurant’s website still lists a location in Tempe, at 3435 S. McClintock Dr., in the Phoenix metropolitan area, but elsewhere it has been reported that this location is closed. Yelp comments suggest the restaurant has not been open for several months.

On August 13, the Tempe location had a “We’re Hiring” sign up, but the doors were locked and no one was inside, even though the location was listed as open online.

Google Maps only shows the location on 19th Avenue in Phoenix, but marks it as temporarily closed. On August 14, the location appeared completely deserted. The sign on the door was faded by the sun and some of the back windows were smeared with spray paint.
