I’m sitting at home and craving home-cooked food that I don’t normally get in a restaurant.

I didn’t feel like going out, so I opened my DoorDash app and, to my surprise, found meatloaf from a new restaurant gaining popularity online: Grab N Trap, 3585 Bay Road in Saginaw Township.

Coming from what is known as “da hood” (Glenwood and Webber), the name immediately appealed to me. “Trap” is a name we knew in our neighborhood growing up and knew the place where everyone hung out. It was the “Spot.”

So I knew Grab N Trap had to have the good food I grew up with.

For several months I have been looking for a restaurant whose food reminds me of what my grandmother, my mother and my sister used to cook.

I found it at Grab N Trap. The menu had the usual items: fish, chicken, and such. But meatloaf was something I had never seen on a menu before.

I ordered it with vegetables, macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes.

I don’t know of any restaurant I could compare the meatloaf to, but I would say grandma, mom and sister would approve.

It was juicy and tasty. And most importantly, it wasn’t topped with ketchup (that’s for kids and fries). The meatloaf had a flavorful barbecue sauce that complemented the well-seasoned meat.

The mac and cheese was…cheesy and the potatoes had a touch of love. The veggies and cornbread were good too!

I have eaten this dish several times just to make sure it was as good as the first one, and it is to my complete satisfaction!
