5 years later, the Avatar franchise still refuses to use its best weapon

With Avatar: The Way of Waterthe planet Pandora has become quite a bit bigger and future sequels will only expand its scope. The third Avatar film, now titled Avatar: Fire and Asheswill take our heroes to a new region and introduce them to two new Na’vi tribes. And that won’t be the end: If Cameron has his way, we’ll see an Avatar movie every few years until 2031. But the wait for any Avatar movie will be a long one, especially when it involves the presence of a certain Oscar-winning actress.

Back in 2019, the Avatar franchise received a boost when Michelle Yeoh was cast as a scientist named Dr. Karina Mogue. Fans waited patiently for her appearance, but Yeoh did not appear in The path of waterand she won’t be there Fire and AshesAccording to Cameron, Yeoh will only appear in the still untitled Avatar4which is set to hit theaters in 2029. This means fans will have to wait another five years to meet her character, and a total of 10 years since she was officially cast in the role.

Cameron explained the situation in an interview with Weekly entertainment. Although he admits the full extent of her involvement was “a little misrepresented” at the time, especially after Yeoh was photographed on the Avatar set in 2021, the filmmaker insists it will be worth the wait. “Michelle Yeoh will not be in 3She is in 4 And 5,” said Cameron. “She will soon come to do her part, which is to be an interesting, funny character.”

The director also explained why Yeoh was chosen for Avatar4 so early. “This whole thing has been planned for years,” said Cameron. “We have been working on parts of 4 even as we go along, especially because we have this young cast. We had to shoot them all when they were young.”

Since the Avatar sequels place more emphasis on the next generation of the Sully family, it makes sense to focus on their adventures before it’s too late. It won’t be easy for fans to wait five years for Avatar4but at least we have Fire and Ashes In the meantime, Yeoh has her hands full with many other sci-fi and fantasy projects: She will appear in the first Evil film this year, and in 2025 she will return to the Star Trek universe in a full-length feature film, Article 31The Avatar franchise is only a small part of Yeoh’s career, so you can expect to see a lot more of her in the coming years.

Avatar: Fire and Ashes will be released on December 19, 2025, followed by Avatar4 on December 21, 2029.
